Sir Edmund Hillary

These are some questions that room 2 came up with for our Inquiry topics!

Why did you choose to be an explorer?

How did sir Edmond Hillary influence the Tibetan people with his generosity?

How did Mount Everest change your life?

Who influenced sir Edmond Hillary's life?

What equipment is needed to climb Mount Everest?

What food requirements were needed to climb Mount Everest?

What are the ten most important things to remember when climbing?

Discovery Time 12th Aug

Goal=Sharing

Lesson to be learnt=Treat people how you want to treated

For Discovery Time we had musical instruments, make a maga, cups, and weaving with flax and paper. People shared instruments with other people and the one we shared the most with was make a 'maga'. We had to make votes out of ten with our hands and some people voted harshly and others voted nicely. Make a maga was making magazines out of magazines. The internet was annoying so Mr C was helping us come up with good weaving ideas. It was easier just splitting them and using them as a ninja sword. Some of us played on musical instruments and we sat down on the cardboard and Hamish and Ben slipped into the cardboard crack. Drum kits were made by some of the boys and Laura and others made marching bands.
Our ideas for next time:
  1. Wood
  2. Wool
  3. Baking
  4. Beads and string
  5. Sacks
  6. Model planes
  7. Cans
  8. Ropes
  9. Flax
  10. Paper mache/Paper plates
  11. Sewing
  12. Paper planes

Goal=Perserverance

Some statements that we were telling ourselves when we were perservering:
  • "try and finish it off"
  • "keep doing it even though it becomes frustrating"
  • "keep on trying and when I mess up I won't make a big fuss about it"
  • "I had a pattern stuck in my head and I told myself to keep doing it"
  • "If I keep trying and learn now I could be a great knitter in the future"
These sorts of statements can be used in lots of other areas of our lives and learning!!

Egg-cellent eggs by Room 2.
